‘E’ Brings It All Together

Contributing Writer: Aaron Hedges, Inheritance of Hope, Technology & Talent Director

We come now to the last part of our H-O-P-E handle.  ‘E’ is for enacting. Everything I’ve said so far has no value if it’s not acted upon.  Simply thinking about or talking about hard times (‘H’), openness to God (‘O’), and perseverance (‘P’) won’t get us anywhere.  We have to enact these things; we have to do them.

Returning to the example of the Milligans, wouldn’t it have been a shame if all they did was think about their hard times, talk about openness to God, and think that perseverance is important?  If they never enacted the vision of Inheritance of Hope?  Deric, his children, and many families have benefited not because Kristen merely believed in an intentional legacy but because she enacted it.  She wrote the letters, made the videos, recorded her voice, gave boxes full of personal gifts.  She did it.

Returning to the example of Jesus, he did not merely think that someone should rescue people from the grip of death – he did it.  He did not merely talk about resurrection – he enacted it.  This God-made-flesh ended his most famous sermon with a story emphasizing the need for us to take action too.  Jesus says:

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.”  (Matthew 7:24-27)

So there’s the H-O-P-E handle.  A small word, just four letters, that connects us to the great, great, reality of hope.  Hope arises from hard times (‘H’), with openness to God (‘O’), by perseverance (‘P’) and enacting (‘E’).  Jesus is our ultimate example, the rock-solid foundation of hope.  Building on him, as the Milligans have done, creates legacies that do not fall but stand the test of time – truly lasting legacies, ever-lasting legacies.  That’s the Inheritance of Hope.

You can put this hope into practice.  You can live in hope founded on Jesus Christ and build an ever-lasting legacy for your life, your family, and your full sphere of influence.  If this is something you want to do, or something you want to do more intentionally, please contact us.  Inheritance of Hope is here to share the journey of H-O-P-E with you!
